El 18 de abril de 1906, San Francisco (California), con su bahía homónima, fue sacudida por un terremoto devastador al que siguieron terribles inundaciones e incendios, que redujeron a escombros y cenizas la ciudad. De un total de 400.000 habitantes, el número de víctimas superó la cifra de 3.000.

  2. El 8 de diciembre de 1941, Estados Unidos entró oficialmente en la II Guerra Mundial.
