La Fuga del Vagabundo

"Oh, help me in my weakness,"
I heard the drifter say,
as they carried him from the courtroom
and were taking him away.		>«Ay, ayudadme en mi flaqueza»,
>oí decir al vagabundo,
>mientras lo trasladaban de la sala de audiencias
>y se lo llevaban.
"Well, my trip hasn't been a pleasant one
and my time it isn't long,
and I still do not know
what it was that I've done wrong."		>«Bueno, mi viaje no ha sido un viaje agradable
>y no dispongo de mucho tiempo,
>y todavía no sé
>qué es lo que he hecho mal».
Well, the judge he cast his robe aside.
A tear came to his eye.
"Well, you fail to understand", he said.
"Why must you even try?"		>Bueno, el juez echó su toga a un lado.
>Una lágrima asomó a sus ojos.
>«Bueno, usted no llega a entenderlo», dijo.
>«¿Por qué ha de intentarlo siquiera?»
Outside, the crowd was stirring;
you could hear it from the door.
Inside, the judge was stepping down,
while the jury cried for more, more, more,
cried for more, cried for more.		>Afuera, la multitud se agitaba;
>se la podía escuchar desde la puerta.
>En el interior, el juez se retiraba,
>mientras que el jurado pedía a gritos más, más, más,

"Hey, you better leave that boy's soul alone."
"Oh, stop that cursed jury,"
cried the attendant and the nurse.		>«Eh, mejor será dejar en paz el alma de ese chico».
>«Oh, detened a ese maldito jurado»,
>gritaron el guardia de sala y la enfermera.
"Oh, the trial was bad enough.
Yes, but this is ten times worse."
Just then a bolt of lightning
struck the court house out of shape.		>«Oh, el juicio fue bastante negativo.
>Sí, pero esto es diez veces peor».
>En ese momento, un rayo
>sacudió al palacio de justicia deformándolo.
And while everybody knelt to pray,
the drifter made his escape,
the drifter did his escape.
So long.		>Y mientras todos se arrodillaban para rezar,
